Virgin coconut oil is oil derived from the meat of mature coconuts. Many countries use different methods of manufacturing coconut oil! Some are bleached & deodorized.

Checking Aroma or Scent

  • Pure coconut oil could never give out all lot of or an overly fragrance or aroma out of it.One of the most immediate differences between Virgin and Refined Coconut Oil is the taste and aroma. While Virgin (unrefined) Coconut Oil boasts a delicious, tropical coconut scent and flavor, Refined Coconut Oil has a neutral.

Freezing Method

  • To know whether the coconut oil is pure, place coconut oil bottle(s) into the fridge. Wait for 30 minutes to 1 hours (depends on the volume of the bottles) with a temperature below 25°C, pure coconut oil will become frozen completely (smaller bottles get frozen faster). On the other hand, if the bottles don’t freeze or only freeze partly while the remaining volume cannot be frozen no matter how long in the fridge, you can suspect coconut oil you bought is impure

Food Grade

  • If you’re planning to cook with the oil or eat it raw, you’ll want to use food-grade coconut oil. It’s made with high production-quality standards, making it ideal for beauty and cleaning purposes, too. If you’ve only got access to a non-food-grade oil, you should only use it externally.

Oil extraction method

  • Pure 100% coconut oil must be extracted from whole old coconut and without chemical process. Around 2-3 old coconuts can yield 1kg coconut meat, and 1 kg coconut meat can yield 100-150 ml coconut oil. Getting 1L of quality coconut oil needs 13 to 15 old fresh coconut fruits. To produce coconut oil, manufacturers must first dry the coconuts and then place into a pressing machine.

Cold-pressed

  • Most every coconut oil is cold-pressed,Many companies heat the coconut to extract as much meat as possible from each one. The only way to get the most nutrients out of a cold-pressed process is to never heat the coconut over a certain threshold. That's why you want cold-processed, meaning never heated, start to finish.

Expelled-pressed

  • This is one to stay away from. Companies are telling you they are heating their coconuts to extract the meat, which as you know, damages the essential nutrients like medium-chain fatty acids and lauric acid, also known as the good stuff.

Refining process

  • Understanding how coconut oil is refined will tell you a lot about the quality of the product you’re choosing. These are the processes to know and look for when making your choice.

Unrefined coconut oil

  • This is where you will see the “virgin” or “extra virgin” labels. If you’re looking for the highest quality coconut oil, these will be the best kinds to buy.
